A little about me
Hitchhiking
Hitchhiking began as a necessity when I missed the bus to school at 14, later realizing the access it gave me to my own emotions; such as anger, pettiness, uncertainty, frustration, joy, curiosity, satisfaction and disappointment. At the same time, it has also opened up exciting, inspirational and strange conversations with random people picking me up opening the world of stories.
Traveling alone
Since I finished high school, the world became my oyster and I experienced how traveling opened up for truly getting to know myself, while at the same time giving me the opportunity to familiarize myself with emotions such as discomfort and loneliness. Traveling has also helped to develop more understanding of the complexity of history, culture, fear and interpersonal relationships. I have traveled alone in India, Nepal, Uganda, Nicaragua, Mexico and the USA. I have become eternally curious about the world we live in.
Couchsurfing & strangers
Couchsurfing has been a big part of my journeys, not only as a way extend finances, but also to be able to meet new people, gain cultural understanding and get more local insight. Experiencing kind people in café’s & restaurants on my travels inviting me into their homes (and my grandmother's). This has contributed to a strong love for trust that can arise between people, especially between strangers.
Self-talk & limiting beliefs
I realized quite early that if I did not start taking my own self-talk seriously my quality of life and level of joy would be severely affected. I therefore started actively working with my own fears and limiting beliefs at the age of 17. This have given me the opportunity to see that it is possible to change the relationship you have with yourself and expand the idea of what kind of life you can live.
Fear of public speaking
Throughout junior high school and upper secondary school, I did everything in my power to avoid talking loudly in class and present in front of others. I eventually noticed that the fear of other people's attention on me was something that took up way too much space and energy, which resulted in me actively starting to expose myself slowly but surely into discomfort in order to hopefully feel a little more secure in myself with time. It has been an incredible experience to see that it has been possible to change this narrative around what I am capable of.
Vanlife
Life is rich and can be quite frivolous. In the spring of 2021, I bought a van that I converted into a home. I have now lived in it since July 2021 with one of my goals to be able to look back at life when I'm sitting in a rocking chair as an old woman and be both satisfied and grateful for the choices I have made. The journey so far has been filled with various uncertainties and fears, but at the same time given me access to wonderful situations, people and places. These days I am working on doing more as I want, rather than what I "should".
I am not listing all of this so that you will think that I am tough, clever or crazy for that matter, but because in every single choice I have made of the things above I have felt, as mentioned: fear, insecurity, loneliness or a form of discomfort, but still manage to get through it.
As I began to see my own relationship with fear change, a new world opened up, allowing for stronger relationships, more laughter, deeper joys, and more clarity about my own potential as an individual.
